Meet Your Host

Hello! I’m Kristi, the baking heart behind aega on and your lead guide for Tastes of Tartu. My journey to this bohemian corner of Supilinn wasn't a straight line—it was a route through the corporate jobs, endless meetings and Excel sheets.

For years, I served as a high-level executive in the tech sector. While I loved the innovation, my creative soul always found its peace in the kitchen. I am a passionate baker at heart and I enjoy creating authentic flavors. Next to baking my second hobby is interior design, hopefully it shows, once we meet at aega on for the start of your tasting journey.

The Inspiration

The seed for this journey was planted while living with my family in the Czech Republic. Surrounded by a culture that truly knows how to appreciate a "slow" lifestyle, I was inspired by their small, local cukrarnas and vinotekas and the way neighbors gathered in front of their local pubs and cafes. I dreamed of bringing that same European "there is time" philosophy back to Estonia in my home neighbourhood.

The Birth of "aega on" & Tastes of Tartu

When we returned home, we transformed a historic 100-year-old shop at the foot of Toomemägi into aega on—a fusion of a cafe, wine bar, and clothes outlet. But I wanted to share more than just my own space.

I created Tastes of Tartu to showcase the hidden, owner-run gems in this part of our city which is off the beaten tourist tracks. We believe in supporting independent creators and sharing our passion for hospitality and baking. No big chains—just big hearts and real flavors with Tartu twist.

Come walk with me

Why us? Because I’ve seen the world, but  the charm of the streets in this neighbourhood in Tartu just keeps on giving. I’ve traded excel spreadsheets for bookmarked recipes and corporate meetings for hosting guests. Join me and my team, and I’ll show you the spots and tastes that don't show up on a standard tourist map.

"The tourist map ends here. The real flavors of Tartu begin."
